Domestic dispute boils into stand off

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) A tense afternoon in Terre Haute after the Police Special Response Team responds to what witnesses are calling a domestic dispute.

“It was nerve-wracking honestly because they showed up with a Hum-vee with a machine gun attached to it and you know you only see that stuff in Afghanistan,” Thomas McDaniel said

The scene at the corner of 9th and Seabury Wednesday afternoon, caught Thomas McDaniel off guard on his day off of work.

“The cops came over across the street and told us, ‘hey we got a little bit of a dangerous situation on our hands,’” McDaniel said. “’So we’re gonna have to ask you to go inside your homes for a little bit.’”

Just across the street from Thomas, police began questioning a young woman who had come out from inside the house.

“A woman was outside and she was pretty and the cops came up and they basically you know asked her a few questions and a guy barricaded himself inside the house and that was about it,” Thomas went on to say.

Within a few minutes the woman was placed in a squad car. Not long after that police arrested the man who Thomas said barricaded himself inside the home. The whole scene wrapped up around a half hour.

The whole scene unfolded across the street from where Thomas McDaniel calls home.

“I’ve seen people come and go, but I’ve got a good heart for my neighbors and you know I give them the benefit of the doubt,” he said. “I mean I don’t have no hard feelings against anybody on this block. They just gotta do what they gotta do and we mind our own business they mind their own business.”
