One person dead after I-70 crash

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Failure to slow down near a construction zone turns deadly Monday afternoon.

Just before 1:00, emergency crews were called to Interstate 70 between Brazil and Putnamville.

Indiana State Police told News 10 a tractor trailer driver failed to slow down near a construction zone, crashing into another semi.

That caused the semi to rear-end another vehicle.

The driver of the original semi died in the crash, while two others were injured.

“It’s just another example that shows how dangerous traveling on the interstate system can be at times when it comes to construction zones…but more importantly, how you must pay attention when you’re driving into construction zones,” Sgt. Joe Watts, from the Indiana State Police said.

Reconstructionists are currently at the crash site.

Authorities are diverting traffic to S.R. 231 to U.S. 40 until the site is cleaned up. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
