Second I-70 crash turns fatal

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – A second accident on I-70 Monday afternoon has turned fatal.

The one vehicle crash happened just before 4:00 near the 47 mile-marker.

Preliminary investigation revealed a black 1997 Ford van was travelling westbound on I-70, when the van left the road and entered a ditch area and hit several large bushes and trees.

When emergency responders arrived on the scene they found 74-year-old Francis Paquette of East Taunton, Massachusetts unresponsive.

Paramedics were able to revive Paquette and transported him to the Putnam County Hospital.

Officials say Paquette has since succumbed to his injuries.

Hospital personnel believe Paquette may have had a medical emergency prior to the crash. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
