Brazil pool to be open after school starts

BRAZIL, Ind. (WTHI) – Summer days will soon turn into school days for many students in August.

Once students head back to the books, swimming pools will close shortly after. However, it will be a different story in Brazil next month.

School is in session for Clay County starting as early as Aug. 6. The swimming pool at Forest Park will remain open for two weekends, Aug. 9-10 and 16-17.

“August is usually the hottest month of the year,” Linda Messmer, president of Brazil parks and recreation, says, “We thought the kids might want to swim on the weekends”.

This is a new idea that the board is trying out, so as for the first attempt, it will be trial and error.

“It may or may not work, we may not have any participants that are interested,” Messmer says, “If that’s the case, then next year we won’t do this, but we thought we’d give it a try”.

Pool hours will be Saturdays from 12pm-4pm, and Sundays from 1pm-5pm. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
