Jury hands down decision in rape case

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A decision was handed down by a jury in a Vigo County rape case.

24-year-old Rakim Hughes was accused of five felonies, including the aforementioned attempted rape charge.

A female victim accuses Hughes of forcing her to commit a sex act at knife point last April.
The jury found Hughes not guilty on the three most serious charges he faced, criminal deviate conduct, attempted rape, and intimidation.

He was found guilty of strangulation and criminal confinement, each of those charges carries a sentence of six months to three years in prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 18th.
