Terre Haute stand-off ends without injury

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A Terre Haute man is in jail following his disturbing message to police.

Police say Thaddeus Carpenter had pulled a gun on another man inside this house on 527 South 19th street.

When that man called police, it was discovered that Carpenter already had a warrant out for his arrest.

Assistant Police Chief Shawn Keene told News 10 that Carpenter told witnesses he didn’t want to go back to jail.

He then added he wanted to shoot police officers if it came to that.

After a three hour stand off, Carpenter eventually surrendered himself to police.

“Like I said before he does have an active warrant. It’s a parole violation warrant. The investigator is speaking to him now so we’ll look into tonight’s events and see if other events are applicable,” Asst. Chief Keen said.

Police couldn’t confirm if they were able to find a weapon in the house. Carpenter surrendered without any guns on him.
