TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Vigo County Historical Society is going ‘Hollywood’ for its first fundraiser of the year and the 1948 movie “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House” is at the heart of the event.

On Sunday, everyone in the community is invited to attend a free viewing of the movie at 2 p.m. at the Community Theater of Terre Haute.

After the movie, VIP ticket holders will move on to a real-life Mr. Blandings’ Dream House on Ohio Boulevard.

The house was one of 76 built across the country in 1948 to promote the movie.

The Dream Houses were partially funded by General Electric, and featured ‘futuristic’ amenities such as dishwashers, intercoms, automatic washers and dryers, and even electric garage door openers.

VIP tickets are $40 each and are available by calling the Historical Society or at the event on Sunday.
