Pool project set to start

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) Vigo County was diving into the school corporation’s planned aquatic center Monday night. We’ve told you about the future central pool plan for the three county high schools.

Monday night, the school board officially kicked off the new aquatic center plans by accepting the construction bids.

“I feel fantastic about the process and where we’re at today,” Vigo County Superintendent Danny Tanoos said. “I look forward to the opening in 2015-16.”

It was a routine school board meeting for Vigo County. But after the long process to create a central school aquatic center the end of the planning process was in sight.

“If the board passes everything tonight, (Tuesday) we expect that you’ll see the old pool house in Voorhees Park being torn down,” Tanoos said. “You’ll see people putting shovels in the ground on Tuesday.”

So what did the board have to pass? Really they were accepting the bids for the construction of the new facility. Which contrary to what you might think is quite complex.

“As far as the actual building construction there is a pool contractor, there’s a heating ventilation air conditioning contractor, etc,” Vigo County Schools C.F.O. said. “All those things are separate components. There will be several contracts issued for the ultimate total construction of the project.”
