Dept. of Labor investigating Laborers #204

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Leadership of the Laborers #204 is on indefinite suspension. And now, the US Department of Labor is involved.

The changes that have taken place at Local #204 have not affected members or their abilities to land jobs.  We spoke with Steve Folz, who is an international rep and the deputy trustee of Local 204.  He says it’s business as usual for members.

We can confirm that Chuck Toth, the local’s former business manager, and other union leadership are still on suspension that began back on May 27th.  Members accused local leadership of misplacing thousands of dollars in union dues.

The International Union, LiUNA, held a hearing last month at the Holiday Inn.  The only results of that hearing we can confirm is that now the US Department of Labor is conducting its own investigation.  Folz would not comment on the nature of the federal investigation.

Folz did say Department of Labor regulations call for a trustee to stay in place for 18 months.  In other words, Local 204 will remain under the control of LiUNA for the foreseeable future.

A call to Chuck Toth was not returned. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
