Martin County man accused of Vincennes rape appears in court

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) – The Loogootee man charged with rape and criminal confinement for an incident dating back to June appeared in court Thursday to hear his formal charges.

Knox County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Hal Johnston added a charge of habitual offender and requested the suspect’s bond be raised to $50,000 cash only.

Vincennes Police arrested Mitchel Cunningham, 30 of Loogootee, in June following an incident that took place in Vincennes. Vincennes Police asked for the community’s help to make the arrest.

In court Thursday, formal charges were filed and a charge of habitual offender was added. Johnston told News 10, if convicted of all charges, Cunningham faces up to 60 years in prison.

A trial date has been set for November.
