SANTA CLAUSE, Ind. (WTHI) – A new ride is on the way to one southern Indiana amusement park.

Thursday evening, Holiday World announced a new steel roller coaster called ‘The Thunderbird.’

The $22 million expansion will cost more than twice the amount Holiday World has spent on any other expansion.

The ride is said to go from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, with multiple inversions and several near misses.

This will be the first launch winged roller coaster in the nation.

The new ride is slated to open in the spring of 2015. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
