VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Officials are reporting alcohol and drugs were the cause of a fatal rollover accident in northern Vigo County.
Just after 1 a.m., Vigo County Deputies were called to the area of 42nd Avenue and Wire Street for an accident with entrapment.
They found a black Humvee upside down in a field.
According to witnesses, Kyle Pendergast of Terre Haute was driving the Humvee with six other people in the vehicle in a hay field when it rolled.
Alyssa Hogue, 19 from Terre Haute, was thrown from the vehicle and trapped when the vehicle rolled. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
A blood test, which is required by Indiana Code, determined Pendergast had a blood alcohol content of .108% and was also positive for marijuana.
He was arrested and taken to the Vigo County Jail for operating while intoxicated resulting in death.
