TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – It’s a program that aims to help promote good health and combat obesity in a fun and positive way.

National Dance Day took place at Fairbanks Park on Saturday.

It’s a national program that’s starting to take place in more cities across America. One of the judges from ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ started the program.

Organizers say that despite the heat, everybody was having a good time.

“To bring awareness to dance and how it’s a great way to exercise and get out and moving,” explained Alysha Kesner, Terre Haute Parks Department. “Dance is good for all ages, all abilities. The dance we have today is good for beginners all the way to advanced. We have young kids, parents, we have all ages dancing. So it’s a good way to get the whole family out.”

Organizers said they’re happy with the turnout for the first year of this event and they’re hoping to continue national dance day in the future. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
