Barrett sworn in as new ISUPD Assistant Chief

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Indiana State University Police Department welcomed a new member on Friday as Officer Michele Barrett was sworn in as the new assistant chief.

She was sworn in and took her oath Friday afternoon on ISU’s campus.

Barrett has more than 20 years of experience with the Terre Haute Police Department. During her time she served in the juvenile division, as well as the violent crimes division.

Most recently she was a lieutenant.

Barrett said she is looking forward to the next chapter in her law enforcement career.

“It just was a really great opportunity,” she described. “I worked with Joe Newport when he was a Chief at the City of Terre Haute, and I wanted to stay in the community here for the rest of my career, and it just worked out really well that I had this opportunity at this time in my career.”
