Newborn baby in good condition after being found in bathroom trash can

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police said a newborn baby was found alive in a trash can inside of a business on the Indianapolis’ west side on Friday night.

According to IMPD officials, police received a call from employees at Carrier Corporation, on the corner of W. Morris Street and Girls School Road, Friday night around 8:15 p.m.

They said they found a baby inside of a trash can inside of a bathroom in the building.

Police said the baby was taken to Riley in critical condition. The baby was later upgraded to good condition, according to IMPD.

Officers were not sure what the baby’s gender was as of Friday night.

A fire station is directly across the street from the business. The Indiana Safe Haven Law allows a person to give up an unwanted infant anonymously to a hospital emergency room, fire station or police station in Indiana.

According to Carrier Corporation’s website, the company specializes in air-conditioning and heating.
