Six Indiana soldiers deploying to Kuwait

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) – A team of central Indiana soldiers is heading overseas Sunday night and for many, it’s their first deployment.

Six members of the 55th Combat Operational Stress Control based in Lawrence will soon be on their way to Kuwait. Family and friends gathered for a farewell ceremony Saturday morning inside the Indiana War Memorial.

These soldiers will provide behavioral health assistance to fellow deploying and returning service men and women.

“We’re going to try our best to make sure soldiers aren’t coming back home with stuff that they experienced in the field or anything like that so if we can sacrifice just a little of our time to prevent that type of stuff then it’s definitely well worth it,” PFC Joshua Foust, of Kokomo, said.

“We collaborate a lot with the doctors. We kind of are the first responders in a sense and we can give them a sense of what’s going on with the specific soldier,” SPC Jeffrey Moore, of Fishers, said.

The unit will be overseas for nine months to a year.
