TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Phase two of a major project at the Vigo County Public library has moved forward.
The main branch is currently undergoing some major renovations.
Construction crews will begin installing new study rooms, collaboration rooms and conference areas in the west wing.
Work has already been done in the east wing with the installation of a new reference desk and more reading areas.
The project comes with a hefty price tag of about $500,000.
Officials say the upgrades will help the library better serve the community.
“We’re also trying to change the way the library’s structured in order to be able to meet the needs of our customers. The west wing previously held a very large print reference collection. Much of which was not being utilized as we now have access to those things electronically. So we’re just trying to make some smart decisions to serve the changing needs of our customers,” Kristi Howe, Director of the Vigo County Public Library said.
Officials also have plans to renovate the children’s section of the Vigo County Public Library.
