81-year-old Indiana farmer rescued from grain bin

SWITZ CITY, Ind. (AP) — An 81-year-old southwestern Indiana farmer is out of the hospital after being buried by corn to the top of his head inside a grain bin.

Steve White says his father, Bill, and a farmhand were working at the grain bin when the corn fell on him Monday at the family’s farm near the Greene County town of Switz City.

White stated he and his two sons used boards to keep the older man from being crushed until firefighters with rescue equipment arrived. White says his father turned purple during the 45 minutes it took to free him.

Steve White says his father was released Tuesday from an Indianapolis hospital.
