CHARLESTON, Ill. (WTHI) – A historic Oak Tree at Eastern Illinois University has to be cut down.
University officials state for some unknown reason, branches from the tree were found on the ground Friday morning by grounds crews.
The tree is said to be anywhere between 250 and 300 years old.
University President Bill Perry said whenever the tree became unsafe is when it needed to be cut down. Portions of the tree are being saved for research and historical purposes.
