Indianapolis Fire Department investigating an underground explosion

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Fire Department investigated a report of an explosion downtown at 100 S. Meridian St. Wednesday afternoon.

IFD officials thought initially it could have been a transformer that blew up underground. Reports indicate manhole covers were lifted off the pavement.

IMPD officers cleared people out of the area.

Indianapolis Power and Light officials said no one was injured.

Investigators asked everyone to stay out of the area.
