INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Former U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett announced on Thursday the filing of his mayoral campaign committee, Hogsett for Indianapolis.
Hogsett served for four years as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana before stepping down in July. After that he became a partner in the Indianapolis law firm of Bose, McKinney, and Evans which fueled speculation that he would run for mayor.
On his first day at the firm he was already talking about what he planned to do next.
“Probably within the next week or two I do intend to file the appropriate legal paperwork that allows me to actively explore running for mayor of Indianapolis,” he told WISH-TV 8 earlier this month.
Hogsett, a Democrat, says the crime epidemic in Indianapolis convinced him to reconsider a pledge to stay out of the race. GOP Mayor Greg Ballard is expected to run for a third term in 2015.
