TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Terre Haute City Engineer’s office confirmed to News 10 that IN-DOT received a total of seven companies who submitted bids for the railroad overpass to be built at 19th and Margaret.
City Engineer Chuck Ennis said that at least one of those bids came below the engineer’s cost estimate for the project. Ennis says bids remain confidential, as these IN-DOT must look over the bids before awarding the project. He also says the estimate will remain confidential as to maintain the integrity of the bidding process.
Once IN-DOT awards the bid, the city will receive an invoice for 20% of the project. Ennis says if the bid below estimate is granted, that will ultimately lower the 20% match the city is to pay, saving taxpayers’ a lot of money.
Construction will begin early next year.
