TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Indiana’s bicentennial torch will be here in Vigo County on Wednesday!
Vigo County is the 35th stop for the torch, as it travels through all 92 counties in Indiana. The public is invited to come out to Fairbanks Park to watch the hand-off of the torch and the relay.
This is a free event from 5:00 to 8:00 Wednesday night. There will be food, family activities and other entertainment at Fairbanks.
19 locals will run with the torch in celebration of Indiana’s 200th birthday. Co-coordinator, Brittany Michaels, says the event symbolizes the rich history of each county while uniting them as one.
“We have torch bearers that are indicative of the kind of service and level of commitment in Vigo County,” said Michaels. So it’s really great to have honorees carrying it through our county and symbolizing the level of commitment that they have.”
At 8:00pm there will be a closing ceremony and a fireworks show to end the night. Be sure to come out and celebrate Indiana’s bicentennial with the community.
