CLINTON, Ind. (WTHI) – One man from Clinton plans to pedal his bike while carrying the torch in the Indiana Torch Relay.
He just one of 20 people picked to represent his community.
Jeff Winchester was in shock when he received a letter from Downtown Indianapolis.
“I got a letter in the mail from the office of the governor, which is always interesting, because you first get it and go okay…what did I do that I don’t know about?” Jeff said.
Jeff was chosen to be a torchbearer and ride his bike during Indiana’s Bicentennial Torch Relay.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to do this really cool thing,” Jeff told us.
He is being recognized for his exceptional public service.
Something Brandon Halleck, Director of Chances and Services for Indiana Youth was not surprised to hear.
“Jeff is one of those volunteers that truly goes all in, you know? He’s a volunteer that any non-profit agency in town would love to have,” Brandon said.
Together, Jeff and Brandon gave out over 500 bikes to kids in need.
“I get rewarded every time I give back and get to do something, that’s still the actual reward,” Jeff said.
You can catch the torch Thursday morning in downtown Clinton.
The entire relay ends on October 5th in Indianapolis.
