INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says the clerk who works at a Speedway gas station on the west side was shot early Friday morning.

According to responding officers, the shooting happened at 10th Street and Girls School Road just before 3:30 a.m. after someone tried to rob the convenience store.

They are calling it attempted robbery. It’s not known if the suspect got away with anything. There’s also very little information known about the suspect.

Police said they don’t know if the shooter ran or drove from the scene or if there was a struggle inside.

They said they will be reviewing surveillance video from the Speedway to learn what they can.

According to police, the 21-year-old clerk ran to the McDonald’s next door for help, and then across the street to the Taco Bell for the same thing. That’s when police found him suffering from the gunshot wound.

Medics took him to the hospital where he is in critical condition.
