Massive crackdown on global mail fraud targeting elderly

(KRON) — The United States has its sights set on an elite international group and the companies involved in global mail fraud, according to CNN.

The Justice Department is trying to shut down the network of mail fraudsters. The fraudsters said they have stolen hundreds of millions of dollars from millions in the U.S. alone.

Officials said these groups have targeted the elderly and other vulnerable people. The fraudsters tell people they have won money or a prize.

One man said these scams drained his father’s savings.

Another woman said the same thing happened to her mom.

PacNet is one of the companies targeted in the crackdown.

Officials are trying to cut off frauds by going after the behind-the-scenes companies that make the schemes possible in the first place.
