TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The pedestrian who was hit on Saturday at the intersection of Wabash Avenue and Barton is listed in stable condition.

Terre Haute Police report the accident happened just after 2:30 p.m. When officers arrived the female pedestrian, identified as Shakaiyra Reed (25 of Indianapolis), was receiving treatment from medics.

Witnesses at the scene report Reed had been the first in a group of people who were attempting to walk north across Wabash Avenue. That is when Reed was hit by a Silver Nissan Altima that was going east.

The driver of the Nissan told police that she was unable to stop in time when the pedestrian walked into the street. Chemical tests came back negative on the driver but police do report that alcohol does appear to be a factor in regards to the pedestrian.

Reed was taken to Regional Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.
