Police confiscate $70,000 in counterfeit items en route to festivals in Indiana & Ohio

MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Police confiscate counterfeit items during a traffic stop.

Indiana State Police report that a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement trooper pulled over a minivan Monday afternoon. The trooper stopped the van for following another vehicle too close on eastbound Interstate 70 near the 52 mile maker.

While talking to the driver, the trooper noticed possible signs of criminal activity.

During a search of the vehicle, police located 1,400 counterfeit clothing items. They include gloves, hats and jackets. Many of the items displayed the brand name logos of North Face and UGG, and were manufactured in China.

Police believe the items were en route to fall festival in Indiana and Ohio to be sold.

Indiana State Police report the street value of the items is $70,000.

Police arrested 39-year-old Jian Ye, of Flushing, New York. He faces a counterfeiting charge.

He was taken to the Morgan County Jail.
