South Knox wins sectional after 15 PKs

BICKNELL, Ind. (WTHI) — It was an epic match in the boys’ soccer sectional at North Knox. South Knox outlasted Vincennes Rivet in penalty kicks.

After two 40-minute halves, two 7-minute overtime periods, and 15 penalty kicks each, the Spartans earned a 2-1 victory to take home the sectional championship.

The Patriots took a lead into the halftime break after a South Knox player accidentally scored an own goal off a Rivet cross into the box.

The Patriots almost won the game in regulation, but a handball penalty in the 76th minute allowed South Knox’s Ryan Rehwald to score on a penalty kick.

In the overtime penalty kicks, it was Logan Cardoza who finally put an end to the game when he drilled a shot into the back of the net.
