TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – We are right in the middle of fire prevention week.
That makes it a good time to make sure you have smoke alarms and if you have alarms, to make sure they have fresh batteries.
The general rule of thumb is if you’ve had a smoke detector for longer than 10 years, it’s time to replace it.
To find out how old a smoke detector is, all you have to do is look at the back for the manufacture date.
