Vincennes council makes moves for new housing development

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) – The Vincennes City Council has paved the way for a housing development.

The council approved the re-zoning of a riverfront property along 1st Street.

Grain Silos along the road would be demolished as part of the project.

The plan includes an apartment complex with 40 units and additional spaces for businesses.

Councilman Tim Salters says he’s excited about taking blighted areas and using them to bring more people to the community.

“You’re gonna have affordable housing, from the $80,000 to the $100,000 range…three bedrooms…two baths…things our community really needs,” Councilman Tim Salters said.

The re-zoning approved by the council is contingent on the developer receiving financing.

Salters says he won’t he won’t know if he receives the tax credits until March of 2017.

The earliest the property may be bought is December of 2017.
