TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A local leader is home after being deployed for several months.
Terre Haute Police Chief Joh Plasse recently returned from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
He’s part of the 38th Infantry Division, which is an Indianapolis-based National Guard Unit.
Chief Plasse left back in November of 2015.
While in Cuba, he helped oversee detainee operations.
One of his deployments was to Afghanistan 2010.
He told News 10 each kind of mission requires readjusting to a routine here at home.
“I’m used to deployment, you know, prior to before this one…you kind of feel out of place…and I think more so on a combat deployment you think you belong over there…you want to go back to Afghanistan…which is kind of off. I don’t know if everyone feels that way. It’s just weird when you come back here. You’re just kind of out of place. You’ve been gone for so long and then you work back to where you were before,” Chief Plasse said.
This month marks 33-years of Chief Plasse’s service with the National Guard.
