SHELBURN, Ind. (WTHI) – A community comes together to honor a murder victim and her family.
Rustin Rehmel was found dead on August 15th of this year at her house in Shelburn.
Police believe her boyfriend killed her after a fight.
On Saturday, family, friends and even strangers gathered to remember her at the Run For Rustin. The goal was to honor Rustin by raising awareness about domestic violence.
Her friends, Sara Church and Beth Cooks, say violence is a reality and they’re grateful so many people are showing support.
“We got to definitely break the silence. There’s been too much of this going on, and I love Rustin, and I know she’s probably right here with us,” they said, “She was really a healer to everyone she met, and she was so vivacious, and funny and just everything you would want in a friend.”
Organizers estimated more than 100 people attended the event.
