Kids learn important lesson about fire safety

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Students at Terre Town Elementary School learned about fire safety on Tuesday.

October is fire prevention month.

Local fire officials teamed up with Novelis to teach kids what they need to know.

Terre Haute Fire Chief Jeff Fisher says kids learned about exits and what to do once they’re out of the house.

Of course, the kids learned what number to call in an emergency.

Fisher says it’s important to make sure young kids know what to do.

“This is our future. These kids are our future. So if they’re not around, we’re not around. So we just want to make that they’re safe…they know what to do in case of a fire,” Chief Fisher said.

Officials with Novelis tell us October is a month all of their factories reach out to the community.
