VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – The future of Drug Court in Vigo County has been up in the air.
For a while, the court’s financial situation has remained a topic of discussion, including whether or not it will even continue on.
Wednesday night, the conversation continued among the Personnel Committee of the Vigo County Council. At their meeting, they discussed the option of approving a position, its job description and classification.
The position would be for a Drug Court Coordinator, which would be necessary for the court to continue operations.
Committee members say with the drug court’s financial situation, many are pulling together to have this service in the community.
“Previously the funding for Drug Court had ran out, and there was a time period where the council was not able to look at funding the program,” said Councilwoman Kathy Miller, “Different offices have stepped up and offered to help fund that through various line items that they have, so really, I think all of our parties are working together to help the Drug Court continue to function in its full certified role.”
Ultimately, the committee voted 2-1 in favor of recommending the approval of the job position, description and classification. Next, it will go before the full council to discuss and vote on the request in November.
