First look and unboxing: Google Pixel XL

Pixel XL

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Verizon just sent me the brand new Google Pixel XL.

With the Samsung Note 7 mess happening, Android fans might be looking for a new device. Is this a good option?

I’ll need a little bit of time to fully review the phone, but I thought I would drop off my first impressions for you to check out.

First thing’s first…this phone looks like the iPhone. There is no other way to put it. In fact, one of our reporters walked around the newsroom with it tricking people into thinking it was the iPhone 7.

That isn’t a bad thing, though.

I am an iPhone and Apple fan. This design doesn’t bug me.

What does bug me is the fingerprint sensor on the back. I’ve never been a fan.

Okay, now I’m done bashing…I just needed to get that out of the way.

It’s a solid feeling phone. It’s kind of heavy…but in a good way. It doesn’t feel flimsy.

So far, Google Assistant is pretty great. Think Siri, but with the power of Google behind it.

For years, the iPhone’s weakness has been Siri. Google’s assistant is super…super quick and very helpful.

To fire it up, you say, “Okay Google…” and then ask away.

It has been a very smooth experience so far.

I snapped a couple of photos with the Pixel XL and the iPhone 7 Plus. Check out the comparisons below.
