TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Jim Albright did not have the typical gig as a correctional officer.
On Saturday, News 10 caught up with Albright who was in Terre Haute for the signing of his book, “Last Guard Out”.
Albright worked on the island prison of Alcatraz in California for the last four years it was open. He says he had no previous experience in law enforcement when he started the job.
Albright says his family was one of 67 on the island at the time, but there’s a personal reason he decided to recount his time at Alcatraz.
“I didn’t do anything that others hadn’t done,” he said, “I wasn’t the only one that ever worked there, but she said, but they didn’t write it down. So it was really written for the kids and the grandkids. So they knew what dad and grandpa did.”
Albright says he actually didn’t start working on the book until many years after his retirement. His whole book is written from memory, not journaling.
