Volunteer firefighter admits to arsons, responding to put fires out

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A Leavenworth man was arrested in connection with 15 arsons in the area over the past week.

According to police, 27-year-old Brian Stonecipher was arrested and booked into the Crawford County Jail.

Police said an Indiana Conservation Officer received a tip, along with the State Fire Marshal, which developed Stonecipher as a prime suspect.

After investigation, Stonecipher was arrested and linked to 15 arson, including one in March on Hoosier National Forest property and two attempted fires at a vacant church on Beechwood Road near Leavenworth this week.

Stonecipher, who is a Leavenworth Volunteer Firefighter and a FedEx truck driver, admitted to starting several fires while in his FedEx truck, and then responding to assist the fires as a firefighter.

Stonecipher is charged with multiple charges that include arson and criminal mischief.
