TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – People partied like it was 1816 in Downtown Terre Haute on Sunday!
That’s because 2016 marks Terre Haute’s 200th birthday!
Marylee Hagan is the Executive Director of the Vigo County Historical Society.
She says to celebrate, partygoers got to experience “200 Years on the Banks of the Wabash”. That’s the story of Terre Haute from its pioneer days on the prairie to today.
Hagan says she’s glad people are so invested in the city’s past.
“We’re thrilled that they’re that interested in the history of our great town,” she said, “There’s a marvelous history here and we like to tell those stories. So the opportunity today through music, songs and character actors on the stage of the great Indiana Theatre was a great thing for us to do.”
Hagan says around 400 people were in attendance for Sunday’s bicentennial birthday celebration.
