WASHINGTON, D.C (WTHI) — Tomorrow is his birthday, but one Wabash Valley athlete got an early present today.
Former Rose-Hulman and Marshall (Illinois) High School pitcher Derek Eitel signed a deal with the Washington Nationals’ organization.
The deal includes an invitation to attend the team’s spring training, something Eitel has yet to do.
He’s coming off a great season in El Paso with the San Diego Padres’ AAA team. Eitel was a AAA all-star in 2014.
Eitel was the first Rose-Hulman athlete in any sport to be drafted to a professional league.
