4 children dead, 2 police officers hurt in Carroll County house fire

FLORA, Ind. (WISH) – Four children died and two police officers were taken to the hospital by a medical helicopter after an early Monday morning house fire in Carroll County, according to the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire in Flora about 25 miles east of Lafayette.

According to the Flora Police Department dispatch, the fire happened in the 100 block of East Columbia Street in Flora around 3:30 a.m.

The Carroll County Coroner has been called to the scene.

WLFI-TV in Lafayette was told by investigators the four children are described as “middle school aged/pre-teen.”  There was also a woman inside the home. There is no word on the woman’s condition.

WLFI said two officers were flown by medical helicopter. One was taken to St. Joe Burn Center in Fort Wayne.

Police said the fire is out.
