TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A former Vigo County School Corporation employee was sentenced Monday.

Michael Rowe was accused of sending inappropriate texts to a teenager.

Rowe took a plea deal.

In total, Rowe was sentenced to six years for his crimes. Only one of them will be served behind bars.

Police say they caught Rowe when he contacted police decoys on the internet.

Rowe resigned from his job as a custodian at McClean High School soon after he was arrested.

Rowe was sentenced for child solicitation as well as dissemination of matter harmful to minors. Once the year in jail is served, Rowe will serve three years on probation.

With the probation, Rowe will also have to register as a sex offender.

He gets credit for the time he’s served since his arrest in April. Rowe will serve the different sentences at the same time.

Because he took a plea deal, the state dropped nine other counts against him.

Rowe will also provide a DNA sample because of the results of his felony conviction.
