Kevin’s Winter Weather Forecast: Will the white stuff fall on Christmas?

winter-wx-2

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Sunspots…persimmon seed spoons and November temperatures.

We’ve learned some of the signs in nature I use to put together my Winter Weather Forecast.

Now for the big reveal.

“What I’m looking at…we’re going to have a white Christmas.”

In part one of this report, I spoke with the 5th graders in Oblong about some of the ways I put together my winter forecast.

After that, I stopped by the Main Street Diner in Oblong for a little hospitality.

So…lets get to it.

December

We’ll begin the month relatively mild. Not too bad.

But not too far into the month, lets says the 3rd or so…we could have some rain coming in…and then it will turn cold around the 4th of December.

Now, we want to keep an eye on the 11th…maybe the 8th to the 11th, right along through there for the possibility of snowfall.

It’s going to get colder about the 12th and then a little warmer. About the 18th through the 20th of December, we could get some rain.

Then, the 22nd to the 24th it gets colder, and my belief right now…what I’m looking at…we’re going to have a white Christmas.

And then from the 28th until the end of the month will start off nice and then turn colder to wind up 2016.

January

The 1st of January is going to start with sunny conditions, but cold and dry.

Around the 10th to the 12th, watch out for some snow.

After that, about January 12th it’s going to get cold. That will be cold snap number one.

January 15th through the 20th it will be a little warmer. We’re going to have some rain.

That rain will change to snow as we have cold snap number two. This will happen, I believe, around January 20th to the 23rd.

We will wind the month of January up really cold, from the 23rd to the 26th we’re talking about cold, single digit temperatures…if not hovering around 0.

February

February is still going to be cold.

The average temperature is still going to be below average…but the precipitation will be above average.

Keep a real close eye on the 10th to the 13th, because what I think is going to happen is it’s going to warm up and we could have sort of a rain-snow-sleet mix before it changes over to all snow by around the 13th to the 14th.

Then on the 15th to the 18th, this is another cold blast, probably the coldest blast we are going to have of the year. That will be cold snap number three.

It will be a little bit warmer from the 20th to the 23rd, calm.

And then from the 24th to the 28th of February, we need to watch out for a possible ice storm.

The bottom line for the winter, I think it’s going to be colder and I think it’s going to be snowy…so get the snow shovels out.
